WikiLeaks Founder A Victim Of A Smear Campaign?

Last week in Sweden Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, was arrested on charges of rape, but the charges did not stick. He claimed it was all part of an elaborate scheme to ruin his name because of his work. He fears this wont be the end of it and is even more worried because he doesn’t know who exactly is behind it.

What is his work exactly? “WikiLeaks is a multi-jurisdictional public service designed to protect whistleblowers, journalists and activists who have sensitive materials to communicate to the public.”

WikiLeaks recently posted 76,000 US documents related to the war in Afghanistan and said they had more than 10,000 to publish. The U.S. Defense Department and Afghanistan officials have asked WikiLeaks to remove the documents from the site and return them to the Pentagon.

You can see how Assange has possibly ruffled some feathers in all the wrong places, but is it fair to ruin his life if he doesn’t do as he’s told by the governments that are involved? Is it really a conspiracy theory or perhaps he’s just a victim of bad timing?
