Wednesday Giveaway: $20 iTunes Gift Card

It’s Wendesday again, which as our regular readers know, means it’s once again time to give something away — hooray! Yep, on top of our regular content — which this week includes: a guide to the just passed Finance Reform bill, thoughts on the future of the automobile, family budgeting tips and a few deals of the day — we also like to give our readers something tangible that they can use on their journey toward financial success. Last week that meant an Amazon gift card. And this week it means a $20 iTunes gift card.

Now, of course, we won’t be able to decide what our winner spends their card on (nor would we want to really), but if the winner wanted to be financially smart, they might decide to use it on a few budgeting applications, or some finance-related audiobooks. Then again, they might just want to opt for the first season of Breaking Bad, or the new Drake album. The choice is yours.

Here’s how to enter:

Cut out credit cards and use cash. We have been so much better off since we paid off all of our credit cards and now use cash only. If we want something we save for it and only buy it when we have saved enough to buy it. No more credit cards! It's wonderful!!!

The best financial advice I ever received was from my parents. When I was a kid, my brother and I received 25 cents per week each for an allowance. They told us that if we wanted a special toy, we had to save up our money for it, and couldn't borrow from anyone to get it ahead of time. Even now, I pay cash as often as possible, and if I use my credit card, I pay off the entire amount in full monthly. No finance charges for me!

The best financial advise I received was to give myself an allowance. A set amount that I can spend from each paycheck without having to account for it with my wife. We each can go out to lunch, or buy a CD without it being part of our family budget. If I chose to save it and get something bigger it is great.

My best financial advise came from my mother who was a widow very young. she told me to take the change out of my pocket every night, collect it all week, then deposit it into a savings account every Monday. It is amazing how quickly that can add up. I now use that savings account to surprise my kids with a bigger ticket item as a surprise for them.

I learned from my parents to save some each time I get paid. I set up a budget when i went to college, if at the end of the month I had some extra in my food account - I put that into savings. I enjoyed watching that account grow.

In my senior econ class we made a chart of someone saving money for retirement early and someone saving later. The person that saved later had to pay more to get less in the end while the other person was the opposite. So I learned to save early!
